Celebrity Eclipse crew member feared dead

A crew member on Celebrity Cruise’s ship Eclipse is presumed to have jumped overboard to his death at the end of a Mediterranean voyage.

The cruise line said the 31-year-old Filipino male had been spotted on the ship’s CCTV camera climbing over railings on the third deck and jumping into the Channel.

The ship, which was sailing from Cherbourg to Southampton at the end of a 14-night cruise, immediately turned around and tried to locate the man in the water. The French coast guard also assisted.

However, the search was called off after several hours and the man was declared missing, presumed dead.

In a statement, Celebrity Cruises said its care team was “providing support to the crew member’s family, as well as his friends and colleagues onboard.”
