Cendant buys Flairview
Cendant Travel Distribution Services (TDS) has bought a Sydney-based hotel distributor that grosses $150m bookings annually. Cendant says the purchase of Flairview Travel will help it to boost its online hotel offering in Asia Pacific and Europe. Flairview is a relative veteran in the online world, formed in 1995. It has an inventory of 5,300 hotels mostly in Australasia, Asia and Europe sold through websites in eight languages. It owns and distributes product through two websites, HotelClub.com and RatestoGo.com. The company claims to have experienced up to 500% growth year on year since 1999. It will sit alongside Cendant’s other online hotel offering, lodging.com which has 12,000 properties mostly in the US. The Flairview properties will be bookable by Galileo-powered agents but also through corporate self-booking tools, direct to consumers through various websites and through the consolidator Travel2/Travel 4. Flairview founder and chairman Leo Kamenev will stay on board with his management team, and the HotelClub and RatestoGo brands will continue to operate separately. Report by Ginny McGrath
