Chambers Bay prepping for its week in golfing spotlight
Washington State is gearing up to host the 2015 US Open, set to tee off from 15-21 June.
Chambers Bay Golf Course in Pierce County proudly hosts the elite event for the first time having already hosted the 2010 US Amateur Championship.
It is the first to be staged in the Pacific Northwest.
The Robert Trent Jones, Jr. designed course features impressive greens in a stunning coastal setting.
Located beside Puget Sound, the course is reminiscent of classic Scottish link courses and will provide both challenging golf and inspiring natural scenery for the estimated 235,000 visitors during Open week.
Chambers Bay is a 20 minute drive from Tacoma and about one hour away from downtown Seattle, and the local area is expecting a major boost in tourism leading up to and during the Open.
Local officials are busily working out a transportation plan to ensure easy access to the course from Seattle for up to 30,000 golf fans each day, after recently announcing commuter rail services would not be utilized.
For visitors hoping to attend the tournament, accommodation and travel recommendations can be found at www.traveltacoma.com and www.visitseattle.org.
