Chicago promotes itself as Lunar New Year destination
Tourism bureau Choose Chicago is promoting the city as the ideal Lunar New Year destination for its largest international market – China.
Chicago city tourism officials have met with travel companies and airlines in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou offering exclusive discounts for airfares, accommodation and shopping for the Lunar New Year period next February.
Also next month, Choose Chicago will start a marketing campaign promoting US retail brands in China and other international markets.
It will form part of a three-month campaign along with Chinese outbound tour operators promoting the city’s attractions and outdoor activities, and Chinese celebrity Qin Lan will visit Chicago and endorse its tourism product through Chinese media.
Last year Chicago attracted 1.8 million Chinese visitors, mostly in tour groups, which represented a 22% increase compared to a year earlier.
