Child dies after pool incident on TUI holiday
TUI has sent its condolences to the family of a child who died after getting into trouble in a swimming pool at one of its holiday resorts in Egypt over the Christmas period.
The girl, from County Durham, was rushed to hospital after the incident at the Jaz Makadi Aqavivia hotel on December 21. She was later flown back to the UK, where she died five days later.
In a statement, TUI said: "We send our deepest condolences to the family and continue to offer every assistance possible."~
The Foreign Office said it had not been asked to help but would try to support the family if required.
"We are aware of reports of the tragic death of a British child after an incident in a swimming pool in Egypt," a spokeswoman said.
"Assistance was provided in this case by the family’s tour operator."
The five-star Jaz Makadi Aqavivia hotel has four pools and includes access to one of Egypt’s largest waterparks, Makadi Water World.
