Stonehenge has been voted the top British iconic landmark in a poll of 2,500 British young people.

Second place was awarded to Hadrian’s Wall followed by The London Eye, according to the survey of eight to 15 year olds.

Edinburgh Castle achieved fourth place in the top ten list, with Buckingham Palace in fifth position in the poll for Travelodge. The Tower of London came in sixth place.

The only natural landmark to make the top ten list – The White Cliffs of Dover – took seven position with eighth place awarded to The Angel of the North.

The last two positions to make the top ten list were Blackpool Tower and St Paul’s Cathedral.

The budget hotel chain’s reservations director Mark Kemp said: “It’s great news that young Brits are keen to preserve Great Britain’s heritage as most of the attractions to make the children’s top ten list of iconic British landmarks are steeped in history.

“With the ‘staycation’ being the top holiday destination for Britons this year, youngsters have been given the opportunity to find out what makes Great Britain so great.

“We have seen a substantial rise in bookings during the school holidays this year and this half term is no exception."
