China Airlines’ travel agency closing down
Taiwan based China Airlines said it will close its fully owned travel agency YesTrip due to the travel downturn.
Taipei City’s Department of Labor received a notice of impending closure from the company, news station TVBS reported
It intends to close the business and transfer employees to other roles at CAL, but there may also be some lay-offs.
YesTrip was established in 2001 and focused on high-end group travel.
However it had apparently been struggling since well before the pandemic due to a trend for independent travel.
The agency’s business partners have been informed and customers will receive assistance in claiming timely refunds.
The Taiwan Tourism Bureau says 17 travel agencies have suspended operations in the first seven months of the year and another 26 businesses have closed.
