China fines another airport coin thrower
Another coin tossing Chinese air traveller has been punished with a fine.
A 23-year old student named Wang was fined fined 200 yuan (about $30) for throwing coins onto the tarmac after arriving off a flight at Xichang, Sichuan province.
The incident, which took place in early September, was different from many other high profile incidents of passengers throwing coins into aircraft engines.
She lobbed three coins through a small gap between the aircraft and the jet bridge after stepping off the plain.
Wang said she did it to bring good luck to her cousin’s baby who was ill during the flight.
The small fine was reflected in the less serious nature of the offence compared to other incidents.
Her actions only came to light after the coins were spotted on the tarmac and she was identified from CCTV footage.
It did not cause any delays to flights.
Over the past few years there have been many incidents of flights being delayed and even cancelled after mostly elderly superstitious passengers threw coins into an aircraft engine to guarantee a safe trip.
