China to open world’s first dedicated virtual reality theme park
Chinese officials have unveiled a first of its kind theme park solely devoted to virtual reality.
Oriental Sci-Fi Valley is taking shape in Guizhou province, southwest China and will feature VR rollercoasters, VR movies, VR flat rides spread across 13 pavilions.
Attractions already well advanced include a cyberpunk ‘alien base’ and the park will also house a media research centre which will test new VR movie tech for the park.
The first phase will open to the public before the year-end and the company has high hopes for its success.
"After our attraction opens, it will change the entire tourism structure of Guizhou province as well as China’s southwest," chief executive Chen Jianli told Reuters.
"This is an innovative attraction because it’s just different."
One noteworthy attraction is the ability to bungee jump from the top of a huge 50-metre Transformer robot.
