China warns its citizens of ‘frequent gun violence’ in the US
Chinese tourists in the US should be ever wary of gun violence and robberies, and when problems occur, healthcare is among the most expensive in the world.
China’s Washington embassy issued the updated advisory to its citizens warning of ‘frequent shootings.’
"US law and order is not good, and shootings, robberies, and theft are frequent."
"You should be on alert to suspicious people around you and avoid going out alone at night," the notice said.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry previously issued an advisory via WeChat for Chinese tourists to be ‘prepare for the possibility that gun crimes may occur at workplaces, schools, at home and at tourist sites.’
It also urged citizens to obtain comprehensive insurance due to the high costs of emergency healthcare.
The embassy notice also spoke of the stringent US border screening methods, telling tourists that border patrol have the legal right to inspect nationality and purpose of travel but hinted that border officers can be over zealous.
"If the parties involved believe that law enforcement officers have engaged in improper law enforcement or discriminatory practices, please keep the relevant evidence and ask to make a complaint to their superiors in person," it said.
"Sparking controversy with on-site law enforcement personnel is not helpful for resolving the obstruction of entry."
In 2016 nearly three million Chinese tourists visited the US, spending more than any other source market at $33 billion.
