Civil Aviation Authority urged to crack down on airlines
Which? again called for the Civil Aviation Authority to be given stronger regulatory powers.
It comes as four in 10 travellers lack confidence in airlines treating them fairly.
Almost two in five (39%) reported that they had little confidence that airlines would treat them fairly.
Which? wants action allowing the Civil Aviation Authority to clamp down on airlines.
Those who didn’t book their flight as part of a package holiday were more likely to lack confidence in airlines.
One-third who suffered a cancellation or delay believed airlines did not meet the requirements.
The consumer champion says failure to make travellers aware of their consumer rights is a systemic problem.
Four in 10 (41%) reported an issue with their most recent flight such as a delay, cancellation, or loss of luggage.
It is calling for an aviation regulator with teeth that can properly hold airlines to account.
Rocio Concha, Director of Policy and Advocacy, said: “It is concerning to find that almost two-fifths of travellers express a lack of confidence.”
“The Transport Secretary must urgently set out plans to equip the aviation regulator with greater enforcement powers.”
