‘Clamp down on cheap flights’
Most people in the UK believe restrictions should be imposed on low cost flights in order to tackle the threat of global warming.
The findings emerged from a poll in The Observer which found that people are starting to realise the environmental impact of cheap flights.
The newspaper’s poll of 1,010 people by ICM comes prior to next week’s G8 summit in Gleneagles where action on curbing carbon emissions will be sought by the Government.
Greenpeace aviation and climate expert Mark Strutt was quoted by the newspaper as saying: “People are finally starting to realise that airline prices need to rise enough to reduce ther maount of flying we do….this doesn’t mean a token rise, but one large enough to have fewer aeroplanes in the sky altogether.”
