Colonel leads Unique ANZAC Tour

The 90th anniversary of the Australian Light Horse Charge in Beersheba has received a great deal of media coverage, all over Australia.

Greece and Mediterranean Travel Centre’s unique, escorted 2008 Australian Light Horse Commemorative Tour combines ANZAC Day in Gallipoli and attending the unveiling on April 28th of a statue to honour the Australian Light Horsemen in the newly formed “Park of the Australian Soldier” in Beersheba, Israel, led by Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to commemorate the 90th Anniversary of the Australian Light Horse Charge at Beersheba, Australia’s greatest military victory in WWI.

The tour includes, Light Horse battlefields in Turkey and Israel and concludes with a visit to Jordan and an evening stopover in Dubai. GMTC has already received a steady stream of bookings for this tour.

The tour leader Colonel Chris Donovan, Honorary Colonel of the 12th / 16th Hunter River Lancers (formerly the 12th Light Horse Regiment) which contributed half of the 800 horsemen who participated in the word’s last successful horse cavalry charge.

Colonel Donovan will be a member of the Prime Minister’s party for the Beersheba ceremony meaning the entire group will take tea in Beersheba with the PM.

Chris Donovan has a distinguished military career with the Australian army and is an expert on all aspects Australian Light Horse history.  He will be accompanied by his wife Tricia, an expert on European, Ottoman and Middle East Art and a member of the Association of Auctioneers and Valuers – Australia, invaluable expertise for group members authenticating souvenirs in the markets of Istanbul, and Jerusalem.

The tour departs Australia on April 19th and includes six Days in Turkey, six days in Israel. In addition to the Beersheba commemoration on April 28, The group will visit Jerusalem, the Dead Sea area and the Galilee in Israel. In Jordan they visit Petra, Mt Nebo and Amman.

The tour returns to Australia via a one night stopover in Dubai on 06 May.
