Colorado ski season gets underway

As thoughts of Australian skiers turn to the northern hemisphere, both Colorado and Japan are gearing up to attract visitors.

Based on skier days, Australia is the no 1 international market to Colorado Ski Country USA destination resorts, including Aspen/Snowmass, Steamboat, Winter Park, Copper Mountain and Telluride.

The largest growth has been seen over the past six years when visits from Australia have risen around 75 percent.

International visitation accounts for more than 12 percent of the skier visits at Colorado Ski Country’s member resorts.

Overall, Colorado remains the most visited state in North America for skiers, with over 11.5 million skier visits (more than 20 percent of the nation’s totals).

Long term predictions for a La Nina weather pattern in Colorado this northern winter appear to be on the money with early snowfalls allowing several resorts to open in October and November.
