Cornwall is set to be showcased on the world stage thanks to the news that the county is to host the upcoming G7 summit in June.

Visit Cornwall estimates the summit – which will see incoming US President Joe Biden among the world leaders set to attend – will bring an economic boost of £50m, a much-needed lift for the county which only earlier this month saw the temporary closure of Newquay Airport Cornwall.

The event will be hosted in Carbis Bay, near St Ives.

Visit Cornwall estimates the summit could provide a £50m economic boost.

Chief executive Malcolm Bell said the summit would ‘not only showcase the beauty of Cornwall but give us the opportunity to communicate our heritage, culture and the connections’.

Taking to Twitter, Julian German, leader of Cornwall Council said: "Cornwall will host the international G7 leaders’ summit in June – an event that will leave a lasting social and economic legacy to benefit all of Cornwall’s residents for years to come."

The UK, US, Germany, France, Canada, Italy and Japan make up the G7 and leaders from Australia, India, South Korea and the EU are also due to attend as guests.

International delegates are set to stay at the Tregenna Castle Resort and other locations around Cornwall, while Cornwall Airport Newquay and the National Maritime Museum Cornwall in Falmouth will also play an official role.
