Costa unveils new ship details

Italian line Costa Cruises has confirmed details of a new Euro 450 million ship due for delivery in 2006.

The 3,800-passenger vessel is to be named Costa Concordia and is claimed to be the biggest passenger ship in Italian history.

It will sail alongside Costa Magica, which was delivered to the company on Friday in preparation for a christening ceremony in Barcelona on November 6.

Costa Magica, the 11th ship in the line’s fleet, will then operate a mini-cruise for travel agents across Europe, including an awards ceremony for the best retailers of the year.

It will then run an eight-day preview cruise from November 10 and an 11-day maiden voyage from Savona in Italy around the western Mediterranean on November 18. The ship will then offer 11-day Mediterranean itineraries before switching to seven-day sailings callng at Barcelona, Palma, Tunisia, Malta, Palermo and Civitavecchia from April to November, 2005.
