Cougars to take NCL cruise

Truth is stranger than fiction, and nowhere is that truer than in the world of travel.

In the last fortnight Travelmole has reported that stranded cruise passengers have been fed spam and poptarts, an international security alert was caused by a test bomb that noone knows who planted, and a tourism website was pulled because its URL was devilishly close to a porn site.

Now the Mole hears more strange news and travel agency customers could well become unwittingly central to it.

It seems the august cruise operator Norwegian Cruise Line is to host the third International Cougar Cruise next month to the Bahamas.

For those uninitiated in modern dating jargon, a “cougar” is a woman of a certain age (let’s just say it – a 40-50 year-old) who is looking for, ahem, love with rather younger gentlemen in their prime.

The three-night trip, organised by US cruise organiser Rich Gosse, has already attracted 100 people. But Gosse admits he will not fill the ship so there will be regular cruisers on the Norwegian Sky as well.

Cougars (and their prey) will be recognisable by special wrist bands.

The concept of the cougar was popularised by the US TV show Cougar Town starring Courtney Cox.

The cougars trip sets sail December 3 but there are more planned for next April.

Agents may want to bear that in mind the next time you take an NCL booking…
