Countdown until Sensational Singapore Flyer Soars
the Singapore Flyer – will open in Marina Bay, the Lion City’s lively and action-packed waterfront precinct. The Grand Official Singapore Flyer Launch, which includes a special program On 1 March 2008 Singapore’s most anticipated new visitor attraction and corporate function hotspot – the Singapore Flyer – will open in Marina Bay, the Lion City’s lively and action-packed waterfront precinct. The Grand Official Singapore Flyer Launch, which includes a special program of events, is scheduled for April 15.
The worlds largest Giant Observation Wheel will offer panoramic views across Singapore, Indonesia and parts of Malaysia. The Flyer will be open daily between 8:30am and 10:30pm, with each rotation lasting 30 minutes and peaking at the height of a 42-storey building – a staggering 165 metres.
Commenting on the launch Mr Kevin Leong, Regional Director Oceania Singapore Tourism Board said, “The Flyer has transformed the skyline of Singapore. Inspired by national icons such as the Eiffel Tower and the London Eye, it was designed by renowned Japanese architect Dr Kisho Kurokawa (of DP Architects) to be Asia’s most visible attraction, and there is no doubt in my mind that it is.
“The Flyer adds an exciting dimension to the unique necklace of attractions planned for the Marina Bay precinct, all of which will further position the area as a quality destination for both the corporate and tourism sectors. It will also be perfectly placed for future guests of the eagerly awaited Marina Bay Sands integrated resort.â€
Located within walking distance of more than 4,000 five-star hotel rooms, the Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre (Suntec Singapore), and the Esplanade – Theatres by the Bay, the Singapore Flyer’s accessibility adds to its appeal as a fabulous venue for corporate and private functions, as well as positioning it as a world-class tourist attraction.
The Flyer is designed along the lines of a Ferris Wheel, with each ‘capsule’ having the capacity to hold 28 people in UV-protected air-conditioned comfort, offering the most amazing views of the city.
