Crew Prevents Attack On China Southern Airlines Aircraft
A report from AHN News in China says that Chinese officials said on Sunday that the flight crew of a Chinese passenger airline foiled a planned attack to crash the plane by someone on board.
The incident occurred on a passenger plane that left from Urumqi, which is the capital of the northwestern Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, according to officials on Sunday.
The crew reportedly foiled the plan to crash the China Southern Airlines flight on Friday morning just after the plane took off at 10:35 a.m., according to Nur Bekri, chairman of the Xinjiang regional government, the Chinese local news agency reported.
According to Xinhua news agency, Bekri said in the ongoing parliament session that the plane was forced to land at Lanzhou, capital of neighboring Gansu Province, at 12:40 p.m. Friday, because “some people were attempting to create an air disaster.”
The plane later arrived to its destination, Beijing, on Saturday. However the Chinese authorities have not yet revealed the details on the reported attacker or any other information.
“But we can be sure that this was a case intending to create an air crash,” he added.
Meanwhile, according to BBC news, Chinese officials have warned of possible attempts to carry out attacks during the Beijing Olympics.
One of the Communist party officials from Xinjiang region indicated that someone from a separatist group was killed in a raid in Muslim-population dominated northwest Chinese region in January and there is a possibility that they could be planning an attack on the Olympics games.
