Cruise Convention ‘biggest UK agent event”

Tuesday, 20 May, 2008 0

The UK Cruise Convention in Southampton has been heralded as the largest travel agent event of the year.

The three-day event, which started yesterday, is attracting at least 500 agents – far more than those who would attend ABTA’s Travel Convention.

The training convention, which includes visits to five ships, has attracted the biggest collection of agents to a UK industry event, according to Andy Harmer, director of organising body the Association of Cruise Experts.

A total of 850 delegates from across the cruise and related industries have registered for the convention which includes a trade fair, seminars and discussions.

All major cruise lines are represented, with visits organised to Cunard’s QE2 and Queen Victoria, P&O Cruises’ Arcadia and Aurora and Royal Caribbean International’s Independence of the Seas.

Carnival UK chief commercial officer Peter Shanks said: “To have 500 agents at a travel convention is awesome.”
