Cruise lines adjust itineraries to avoid storm
Several cruise lines have made adjustments to Caribbean itineraries as Tropical Storm Humberto is expected to become a major Hurricane.
The national Hurricane Center upgraded its advisory.
“Heavy rains and gusty winds are ongoing in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and the Turks and Caicos Islands, and are likely to spread across the Bahamas and eastern Cuba.”
In response, Carnival Venezia will avoid Grand Turk this weekend and instead stay a little longer in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Carnival Sunrise called at Half Moon Cay a day earlier than planned.
“Safety is our priority, and we continue to track the storm. Guests on upcoming sailings are encouraged to opt-in to text alerts during check-in and monitor their email for potential updates,” the cruise line said.
Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas will shift its planned Eastern Caribbean itinerary starting Sept. 28 for a Western Caribbean cruise instead.
It will now visit Costa Maya, Cozumel and Roatan, Honduras.
“We are monitoring the expected development of the storm near the northwest Bahamas and a hurricane in the Atlantic and have decided to make itinerary changes. We have communicated the changes to our guests directly,” it said.
Disney Wish’s Nassau call has been canceled and the visit to Castaway Cay was brought forward by a day.
It will now spend Sept. 28 as a day at sea.
