Cruise ship guest fined after gun found in bag in the Bahamas
A grandmother was arrested, charged and detained in the Bahamas after a handgun and ammo was found in her bag.
Mary Robinson, 69 from Oklahoma, was charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The weapon was discovered while Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas docked near New Providence Island last week.
The black Kel-Tec .380 pistol and four rounds of ammunition were found, attorney, Bjorn Ferguson said.
Two days after the arrest, Robinson pleaded guilty to possession, apologizing for forgetting the firearm was in her bag.
The weapon wasn’t discovered by security at departure point Port Everglades prior to first boarding the ship.
She was fined $8,000 but was unable to pay.
She has been detained at the Fox Hill Prison in Nassau.
Robinson’s granddaughter, Graci Exendine organized a GoFundMe appeal to raise funds to pay the fine. The target has now been reached.
The fine was paid and Robinson was released after around six days in custody.
