Cycle tourism experts head to Sydney for 2nd Australasian Cycle Tourism Conference
National and international experts in cycle tourism will converge on the Novotel Hotel, Sydney Olympic Park on the 18th and 19th of October this year to share their expertise with local and national cycle tourism practitioners.
The 2007 Australasian Cycle Tourism Conference will build upon last year’s innovative conference to enhance awareness and potential of cycle tourism in Australia.
”There will again be strong overseas speakers on the list this year, including Susan Achmatowicz, the founder of Country Lanes UK, Britain’s award-winning cycle hire and holiday company, and Peter Eich, arguably Europe’s most innovative cycle tourism operator recently recognised as Germany’s most successful operator,“ said conference project manager Christian Haag.
”Australia is a natural cycle tourism destination, with long hours of natural light, unique scenery and adventure awaiting cycle tourists.”
“It has all the ingredients to become a recognised cycle tourism destination.”
“This conference is the first step towards ensuring that visitors cycling in Australia experience best quality infrastructure, support and experiences, “ he said.
Local speakers will include touring, events and local Government success stories, with a focus on marketing, industry development, regional community planning and research to progress the cycle tourism experience.
The capacity for cycle tourism to drive economic development in regional communities will also be a major focus of the two day conference.
Importantly for the National cycle tourism community, this conference will be a valuable networking opportunity, and a chance to move cycle tourism forward with a common goal and purpose. “We are very excited about that prospect, “ said Mr Haag.
There are many examples of cycle tourism initiatives that have demonstrated the power of cycle tourism to revitalise rural communities across the world, the 2007 Australasian Cycle Tourism Conference offers regional stakeholders an insight into these benefits, as well as practical information on how to harness it.
