Cyclone warning for Barbados, St Lucia and other islands
Barbados, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines are likely to be hit by a tropical storm later today, warned the Foreign Office.
It said a weather system developing in the Atlantic is ‘likely’ to become a tropical cyclone and might bring ‘hazardous sea and weather conditions’ to the area.
Visitors should monitor updates from the US National Hurricane Centre and follow the instructions of the local authorities, including any evacuation orders, it said.
The hurricane centre says there is a 90% chance of a cyclone forming within the next 48 hours. Areas likely to be affected are the Windward and south Leeward islands, Bonaire, Curacao, Aruba and along the north coast of South America.
"Regardless of whether the storm is a tropical wave or a tropical cyclone, heavy rains and tropical storm-force winds in squalls are expected to spread over the Windward Islands and portions of the southern Leeward Islands," it said.
It said the storm would last until early tomorrow.
