Delhi Airport terminal shut after roof collapse
Passengers departing from Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi have been warned of some disruption after a roof collapsed at the airport’s Terminal 1.
One person died and eight others were injured.
The terminal has been shut down indefinitely.
T1 is a domestic terminal with flights operated by IndiGo, SpiceJet and others, which have been moved to terminal 2 and 3.
Following the roof collapse 20 IndiGo flights were cancelled at the weekend.
Delhi Airport says there is capacity at the other terminals and flights are operating normally.
Still, passengers are urged to get to the airport early and check for flight departure updates
“Communication regarding terminal information is being communicated either via WhatsApp, SMS or Email. Please check flight status before heading to the airport,” the airport posted on X.
The Civil Aviation Ministry has ordered a full investigation and structural inspections of all terminals at the airport.
The ministry also said the Airports Authority of India should start inspections at airports across India.
