Delta Air Lines targets Asia for more quarantine-free international flights

Delta Air Lines says it is in early talks to expand its quarantine-free testing program to more international destinations.

It has now started quarantine-free flights from Atlanta to Amsterdam and later this week to Rome, and is now targeting destinations in Asia.

"Our focus is not just across the Atlantic. I think we’d like to see a similar program across the Pacific," Perry Cantarutti, Delta’s SVP of alliances and international, said at a media briefing.

"It’s a combination of certainly identifying the need and then finding an opportunity where you’ve got government authorities that are willing to have that conversation."

Delta’s has Asia hubs in Seoul and Tokyo.

Under the current program every passenger is tested a few days prior to travel, and then receives another rapid-test prior to departure at Atlanta, before being tested a third time on arrival at the destination.

Even though Covid19 vaccinations have begun in the US and Europe, airlines see pre- and post-flight testing as a quicker way to boost international passenger traffic.
