Delta Air Lines testing biometric boarding
Delta Air Lines has rolled out a new biometric boarding program at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
Passengers can proceed after a scan is taken of their fingerprint in partnership with trusted-traveler program Clear.
To begin, it is open to eligible Delta SkyMiles members to access the Delta Sky Club using just their fingerprint for entry.
It will then expand to SkyMiles members who are also enrolled in Clear for fingerprint verification at airport ticket counter, bag drops and boarding gates as well.
"We’re rapidly moving toward a day when your fingerprint, iris or face will become the only ID you’ll need for any number of transactions throughout a given day," said Delta’s COO Gil West.
"This is one way Delta is working to give our agents more time to interact with customers while increasing the speed and accuracy of ID and boarding pass verifications."
To encourage more sign ups of Clear, Delta is offering exclusive rates for SkyMiles members.
JetBlue also announced this week a new biometric facial recognition self-boarding program in association with airport IT firm SITA at Boston Airport.
