Delta hiking fares due to fuel costs
Delta Air Lines chief Ed Bastian says high oil prices will result in a hike in air fares of up to 10%. Oil prices are at 14-year highs due to the Ukraine invasion. Delta plans to impose fuel surcharges on international flights.
Delta will also increase ticket prices for domestic flights. Emirates, Japan Airlines and AirAsia are introducing surcharges on air tickets to recoup costs.
Bastion predicts the airline will be profitable in the ‘second quarter and beyond ’thanks to strong sales including a gradual return of business travel.
