Delta, United developing Apple Watch apps
Both Delta and United Airlines are joining rival American Airlines in climbing aboard the Apple Watch bandwagon.
Both carriers are developing apps due for release in time for the device’s launch date of April 24, according to a report on the Venturebeat tech website.
The Delta app will feature notifications of upcoming flights and details of flight number, flight times, boarding gate number and other relevant information.
For flight disruption or boarding gate changes, a push notification update will be sent to the Watch screen, said Delta spokesman Paul Skrbec.
As with the existing Delta mobile app, passengers will receive a ‘welcome’ notification when the flight approaches the destination and will direct passengers to the appropriate baggage claim carousel.
United’s app also offers similar functions about the wearer’s flight status including departure times and gate numbers with real time alerts when changes occur.
Before the day of travel users can access their reservation details on their watch.
