The Discover Dominica Authority has appointed Colin Piper as its new CEO and director of tourism.

A Dominican native, Colin Piper has over two decades of sales, marketing and operations experience both domestically and internationally. Prior to taking up his new role in February 2009, Piper worked for Microsoft Corporation, Thomson Reuters and IBM.

In addition to this, Piper spent two years working as a key member of the management team of the National Development Corporation for Dominica. He played a vital role in the organisation of the World Creole Music Festival, acting as the executive director for the festival in 2001; and was a principal of a leading local media consultancy firm where he helped develop destination marketing campaigns to grow Dominica’s tourism industry.

Piper also served two years as treasurer of the Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association.

“I’m looking forward to leading the efforts that will drive Dominica’s tourism arrivals while simultaneously continuing to build awareness for the destination as ‘The Nature Island’ among responsible world travellers,” stated Mr. Piper. “Particularly within today’s global economic climate, it will be more important than ever for us to focus on the competitive needs of the marketplace, of our tourism stakeholders and of the local people.”

Colin Piper is a graduate of the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Finance and his MBA in Marketing, Finance and Strategic Management.
