Disney bans selfie sticks
Disney has become the latest visitor attraction to impose a blanket ban on selfie sticks. The ban at its theme parks in Florida and California will kick in tomorrow.
It will be extended to Disneyland Paris and its theme park in Tokyo on Wednesday.
Disney had already imposed a partial ban, stopping the use of the extension sticks used for taking smartphone self-portraits on rides.
However the policy was frequently holding up the operation of rides, Disney said.
"We strive to provide a great experience for the entire family, and unfortunately selfie sticks have become a growing safety concern for both our guests and cast," said spokeswoman Kim Prunty.
From Tuesday visitors arriving with selfie sticks at the entrance will be asked to leave them at a storage facility or return them to their cars before being granted access.
The sticks have been banned at several attractions and museums around the country including on rides at Universal and SeaWorld.
