Disney building Star Wars parks in Orlando, Anaheim
The rumors have been growing in recent weeks and now it’s official.
That galaxy far, far away is about to become a reality as Walt Disney Co officially announced ‘Star Wars’ themed lands for its California and Florida parks.
As was widely expected, CEO Bob Iger unveiled plans for Star Wars attractions at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, and Disneyland in Anaheim, California, during the D23 Expo fanfest.
Two 14-acre attractions will be the biggest single themed expansion in the company’s history.
"We are creating a jaw-dropping new world," Iger said.
Guests will be able to take the controls of the Millennium Falcon while another attraction promises to place guests ‘in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.’
The new lands will feature characters from the original Star Wars films as well as the upcoming ‘The Force Awakens,’ with entertainment populated by ‘aliens and droids,’ Iger said.
The next instalment of the franchise – Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits the big screen in December.
At the same time Iger also announced plans for a new Toy Story Land at Disney Hollywood Studios.
