Disneyland California pressing ahead with Marvel-themed development
Fresh from the landmark opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Anaheim’s Disneyland Resort is getting busy with its next themed universe.
The company has reportedly obtained the necessary permits for the expansion of a land at Disney California Adventure which will be dedicated to Marvel superheroes.
It plans to spend an initial $14 million on the expansion, adding a microbrewery, retail outlet and a character meet-and-greet zone, but that is expected to be just the start.
It will replace A Bug’s Life area which has been closed to make way for the new marvel attractions.
That closed in September and work on the Marvel Land is already under way behind the scenes for a slated 2020 opening.
The park already has the Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout ride.
Few other details have been disclosed yet but more specifics are expected to be announced at Disney’s D23 event in August.
The Marvel expansion is going global in the coming years.
It includes an expansion at Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris from next year followed by Epcot and then Hong Kong Disneyland by 2023.
