DisneyQuest to close next year

Disney announced it will close the DisneyQuest indoor interactive theme park at at Walt Disney Resort next year, to make way for the new NBA Experience facility.

Opened in 1998, DisneyQuest features video games, virtual reality and 3D rides, and interactive activities but has become a little dated in the years since, with the onset of video consoles and smartphone gaming.

DisneyQuest is located in Downtown Disney which itself will be transformed into the new Disney Springs, adding more shopping, dining and entertainment.

The company said alternative employment will be found for affected employees currently at DisneyQuest.

The recently announced basketball-themed NBA Experience promises ‘hands-on activities that put families and guests of all ages right in the middle of NBA game action.’

It is just one of several major changes announced recently at Disney.

It had already announced the closure of the Hollywood Studios Backlot Tour and American Idol Experience, and recently said the Magic of Disney Animation attraction would shutter on July 12.
