Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will stay closed until summer 2021

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will remain closed for many more months.

It will now stay closed until the summer of 2021 but no specific date has been announced.

Opening dates had already been pushed back twice this year since it initially closed in March.

Disney said that it will make use of the downtime to renovate the Polynesian’s guest rooms with a ‘Moana’ style theme.

"We expect work to begin in early October and look forward to sharing more about these changes in the future. The Villas and Bungalows at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will remain open during this refurbishment," Disney said.

The company said the Grand Floridian and the Coronado Springs will be reopening to guests on 21 September and 14 October respectively.

The two properties are being used for the NBA’s ‘bubble.’

Universal Orlando recently announced permanent layoffs and extended furloughs of hundreds of workers at resort hotels.

Loews Hotels & Co, which is the official operator of Universal Orlando’s park hotels, announced job cuts at Loews Portofino Bay, Hard Rock Hotel, Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort, and Loews Royal Pacific Resort.

Job cuts are thought to number at least 900.

"Unfortunately, the global pandemic surrounding Covid-19 has forced Loews Hotels & Co to make some difficult decisions as it relates to our workforce," spokeswoman Jennifer Hodges said in a statement.
