Does Travel Insurance Really Help?

Wednesday, 06 Aug, 2009 0

Travel insurance often creates a bit of confusion, as people often tend to think that when they already have life insurance or health insurance, how exactly travel insurance would help them out. However, most of them often forget that the insurance they have is a health or life insurance but travel insurance will cover areas like trip cancellation, trip interruption or travel delays. Moreover, the usual insurances are often subjected towards various restrictions once you move out of your home area.

How easy is life without travel insurance?

It was a big problem when people used to suffer a lot as their existing insurance policies didn’t provide the protection while traveling. That was the time when travel agents used to sell travel insurance policies but most of the travelers were reluctant in buying it. However, during mishaps the travelers used to ask the tour operator to waive cancellation fees or give refunds against cancellations. The problem gave rise to many travel insurances companies, which had a broad insurance plan and covered trip cancellation, trip interruption and other mishaps.

Travel insurance for group travel

On the other hand, group travel organizers eagerly waited for favorable travel insurance plans for their groups of 10 or more. In order to satisfy this latent market of group travel insurance coverage various insurance companies started offering group tour organizers insurances on net rate (a single rate for everyone in the same group) or on age basis. Nowadays, most Insurance Companies are providing such suitable plans for the group travel organizers.

Benefits of travel insurance

The plan worked out well as it offered exactly what the travelers were expecting. The acceptance of travel insurance plan is so much that these days most of the tour operators can arrange travel insurance. Travel insurance provides the perfect remedy by offering the financial insolvency protection and the ability to cancel for any reason. However, you have to take the initiative to buy these benefits as the tour operators can’t get that for you. The reason behind this is you won’t be able to get the protection against the tour operator’s fault if you buy the insurance. Moreover, when there is a cancellation from the tour operator, all they issue is a voucher without any cash.

The biggest benefit of travel insurance is that it gives peace of mind to the traveler. The manifold benefits make travel insurance an offer rather than a sale. It is a huge safeguard to the traveler’s entire investment and it helps to restrict the liability as well. Travel insurance helps to enjoy a trip free of any sort of headache. In fact, it is mandatory for the tour operator to offer the insurance because during the tour if the traveler meets an accident, it may bring big trouble for the traveler as well as the tour operator for not offering the insurance. To avoid such circumstances, travelers often get a waiver from the tour operators based on an agreement, which says that they were offered the insurance and they did not accept it.
