Drone grounds flights at Newark
All flights out of New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International Airport were briefly grounded Tuesday night after two pilots spotted a drone.
A FAA groundstop is issued holding all outbound flights but they resumed after a short period.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the flight crew of a Southwest flight and a United flight both reported a drone sighting at nearby Teterboro Airport, which is about 15 miles from Newark Liberty.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates both airports, said law enforcement was investigating.
United Airlines said there was only minimal disruption to its operations.
The drone was reportedly flying at about 3,500 feet.
Authorities are taking no chances following recent flight chaos at two London airports after drones caused about 1,000 flights to be canceled or diverted.
