Dublin Airport evacuated after bomb scare
Dublin Airport evacuated staff and passengers from its main terminal building on Tuesday after a man walked into the arrivals hall saying he had a bomb.
“There has been an evacuation of the landside areas of the airport building due to a bomb scare,” Dublin Airport Authority spokesman Vincent Wall said.
Police and an army bomb disposal unit were sent to the airport and traffic diverted away from the area.
“It seems a man walked into the arrivals hall and said he had a device in a bag but obviously no one has checked what’s in the bag yet,” Defence Forces spokesman Sean O’Fatharta said.
The man was arrested, police said, but gave no further details.
An airport spokeswoman said flights were landing at the airport but there was no access to the terminal building. Flights out of the airport were not expected to resume before 4 p.m. (1500 GMT).
Dublin Airport, north of the capital, is Ireland’s busiest airport. More than 18 million passengers passed through it last year.
