Easier access to Chiapas for its eco-adventure offerings
US visitors are expected to escalate after the $7 million development of the port of Chiapas, say Mexican officials.
Chiapas, located in the southernmost part of Mexico, is renowned for its eco-adventure tourism, preserved colonial cities and Mayan archeological sites. The port is located just 13 miles from Tapuchula International Airport, which offers daily flights to Mexico City.
“While a large percentage of tourism to Chiapas comes from Europe, we think that the development of the port will provide many new opportunities for inbound tourism from the Americas,” said Roger Grajales, tourism director for Chiapas.
Tourism is Mexico has increased for the past two years. It was up 10.5% last year over 2003.
