Eastern Washington becomes first to announce touch-screen travel planners
In partnership with Chelan County Public Utility District (PUD) and the Ports of Chelan and Douglas Counties, the Wenatchee Valley Visitors Bureau (WVVB) unveils four customized touch-screen visitor kiosks to assist guests in traveling the region. Visitors may use this new technology to learn about local history and points of interest, as well as options for local entertainment, transportation, recreation, hotels, restaurants and more.
An eco-friendly alternative to brochures and maps, these new digital kiosks will allow the WVVB to print an estimated 15 percent fewer visitor guides in 2010.
“The Wenatchee Valley boasts a wealth of offerings for the business and leisure traveler,” said Roger Clute, executive director of the Wenatchee Valley Visitors Bureau. “We found these kiosks to be an easy-to-use, green way to literally place this information at the fingertips of our visitors – they are an ideal alternative to maps, brochures and related tourism items.”
“To my knowledge, the Wenatchee Valley is the first region to offer this type of tourism technology citywide,” said Mike Mackey, president of the Port of Chelan County. “We see this as an innovative and environmentally-friendly way to share the best of the valley with our guests
The kiosks can be found at Confluence Technology Center, Pangborn Memorial Airport, Rocky Reach Dam Visitor’s Center and the Wenatchee Convention Center. The interactive menu features a drop-down menu with the following topics: accommodations, dining, shopping, city services, attractions, outdoor recreation, special events, cultural activities, parks, transportation, sports and visitor information.
Each kiosk is customized to its location, offering information specific to its site. For example, the Rocky Reach Dam kiosk will provide information on the visitor’s center and current exhibits.
