EasyJet bullish on strong recovery
Although easyJet continues to cancel flights, it reports a rosy outlook with a ‘strong and sustained recovery.’
Booking volumes have surpassed pre-pandemic levels based on sales made during the past six weeks.
The low-cost carrier operated at 80% of 2019 capacity in the first three months of 2022.
“EasyJet flight performance in the second quarter has been driven by improved trading following the relaxed testing restrictions with an extra boost from self-help measures which saw us outperform market expectations,” chief executive Johan Lundgren said.
“We have seen a strong recovery in trading which has been sustained, resulting in a positive outlook for Easter and beyond.”
This is all despite ‘the recent increase in the number of crew testing positive for Covid-19, together with normal operational disruption.’
The airline says it has flown 94% of planned schedules over the past week.
“We have proactively managed this in advance by making pre-emptive cancellations as early as possible,” the airline said
The company’s estimated loss narrowed to between £535 million and £565 for the first half which ended March 31.
Seat capacity for the current quarter is around 90% of pre-pandemic levels.
