EasyJet CCO Robert Carey to become Wizz Air President
Robert Carey will join Wizz Air in the new role of President on 14 June next year while Michael Delehant, currently Vueling’s Chief Strategy and Network Officer, will become Executive Vice President and Group Chief Operations Officer next April.
Robert, above left, an American and French citizen with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering and a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard, will report to the CEO and will oversee Wizz Air’s operations and commercial functions.
He started his career with American West Airlines, followed by Delta, before joining McKinsey and Company, where he was a partner before joining EasyJet as Chief Commercial Officer and Strategy Office in 2017.
Michael, an American, will become a member of Wizz’s executive team based in Budapest, reporting to the President from July 2021. He replaces Diederkik Pen, who will be stepping down from his position to pursue other interests outside of the company.
CEO Jozsef Varadi said: "Today’s announcements underline Wizz Air’s investment in the future. We are further enhancing our leadership capacity as Wizz Air continues to demonstrate outstanding agility in the pursuit of being the ultimate structural cost winner in the industry.
"This has been an unprecedented year for aviation, yet Wizz Air has displayed rigorous cost control and a process-driven weighed decision-making that resulted in us being one of the best positioned airlines in Europe today.
"I would like to thank Diederik for his relentless commitment and personal leadership in the past eight years. He has been instrumental to the development of the airline and led the induction of 100 aircraft in the Wizz fleet."
