EasyJet ditches Zurich
EasyJet is scrapping flights to Zurich because it says the airport is too expensive.
The no-frills airline says Zurich is the most costly airport in its network and says that the decision by the airport to more than double its passenger fees over the last two years has made the route unprofitable.
From November 1 Easyjet will fly from Luton to Basel instead of Zurich. There will be two flights a day with prices starting from £23 one way including taxes.
EasyJet chief executive Ray Webster said airport fees were “a rip-off” but said the airline had managed to come to an agreement with some European airports over fees. “But other airports assume they can charge whatever they want, use ‘cost-plus’ pricing models, and charge for services that airlines don’t want or use. This is ‘old world’ thinking”, he said.
