Easyjet will launch flights to Reykjavik from Stansted this winter.

The service, which goes on sale today, will operate twice a week throughout the winter.

It will operate alongside easyJet’s flights to the Icelandic capital from Gatwick, Luton, Bristol, Edinburgh, Manchester and Belfast.

The airline said the route would be popular with leisure travellers and it is expecting to carry 13,000 passengers on the route annually.

Commercial manager Ali Gayward said: "Our Iceland routes have proved extremely popular in both the summer and winter owing to its stunning scenery and amazing natural landscape.

"There is a growing demand for short and long breaks in Iceland and we are able to make it convenient to reach both sides of the route and to provide value for British and Icelandic consumers."
