An easyJet pilot has been suspended from duty after flying an aircraft dangerously close to a mountain range.

The flight from Manchester to Egypt was carrying 190 passengers and crew who were apparently unaware of the cockpit drama.

An emergency alert sounded as Captain Paul Elsworth brought the plane in to land in Hurghada, Egypt.

“Safety is the number one priority for all our pilots, they are trained to the highest industry standards, subject to rigorous testing and monitored closely,” the airline said.

“The flight landed normally and as we have an ongoing investigation, the pilot remains stood down from duty in line with procedures.”

The alert sounds when a plane is getting too close to ‘terrain,’ including mountains.

It was thought to be within 900 feet to hitting the mountains.
