Easyjet’s march towards tour operator status continued apace today with the news that it has seen a year-on-year 60% increase in accommodation sales on its website.
The company’s accommodation option is powered by Hotelbeds.
Head of ancillary revenue Nick Hughes said: “EasyJet and Hotelbeds identified a number of key criteria which consumers needed in place in order to make their hotel selection easier and more engaging.
“For customers who have already selected their flights on easyJet.com, a wider choice of accommodation with tailored offers is now being presented prior to checkout, and the results have been impressive.
“We intend to build further upon this convenience for our customers of being able to add hotels to their shopping basket while in the flight booking funnel.”
Meanwhile Easyjet’s plans to boost the range of holidays it offers on its website in conjunction with Low Cost Travel Group is causing waves in the industry.
The three-year deal whereby passengers on easyjet.com can book accommodation and tranfers has caused concern that agents specialising in dynamic packaging will suffer. With no independent charter operators to the eastern Mediterranean, holidaymakers will have no choice but to book easyjet.
The carrier’s deal with Low Cost Travel Group will mean they are then confronted with a massive range of accommodation options, lessening the chances of them booking a bed via an agent.
