Ebola confirmed in Big Apple
A New York doctor has become the first person in New Yoek City to test positive for Ebola.
Craig Spencer, 33, is believed to have contracted the disease while working in Guinea, West Africa, for a medical charity.
His apartment in Harlem has been sealed off, he is in an isolation ward and three people he was in close contact with have been placed in quarantine – one in hospital.
Authorities are in the process of tracking down those who came into recent contact with him.
Officials are trying to retrace his steps since he began showing early signs of Ebola infection.
Spencer is thought to have traveled by New York subway, taken an Uber car ride, and went bowling in Brooklyn.
The Uber driver has been identified and isn’t considered to be at risk of infection.
The bowling alley was closed yesterday ‘out of an abundance of caution.’
He is the fourth confirmed person in the US to have contracted the disease.
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio attempted to calm fears and said Ebola was not easy to catch.
"We want to state at the outset, this is no reason for New Yorkers to be alarmed. Ebola is an extremely hard disease to contract" he said.
He said: "Travelling on the same subway car does not put someone at risk."
