Egypt tops summer best sellers – lastminute.com
The Red Sea resort of Sharm el Sheikh has emerged as the best selling package holiday destination this summer for lastminute.com.
It moved up from second place in 2005 despite terrorist bombings in Dehab in April.
But the overall package holiday market was down by 12% following a four per cent decline the previous summer, while lastminute.com’s dynamic packaging business grew by 35% year-on-year.
The online retailer’s best selling package destinations were: Sharm el Sheikh, Corfu, Majorca, Rhodes, Taba, Kos, Crete, Luxor, Lake Garda and Hurghada.
The fastest growing package holiday destinations for the summer were:Agadir, The Gambia, Dominican Republic, Olu Deniz, Tunisia, Marrakech, Hurghada, Marmaris, Kenya and Skiathos.
The best selling dynamically packaged – or DIY holiday – destinations were: Paris, Prague, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Rome, Brussels, Venice, Berlin, Dublin and New York.
The fastest growing dynamic packaging destinations were Beijing, Pisa, Las Vegas, Marrakech, Bilbao, Hong Kong, Cannes, Dubai, Hamburg and Palma.
The most seached for dynamic packaging destinations were Paris, Barcelona, Rome, Prague, new York, Amsterdam, Venice, Dubai, Dublin and Palma, sccording to lastminute.com.
