Electric charging stations to be installed at Port Canaveral
Cruisers in Port Canaveral will soon be able to power up their electric cars after the port authority and Nissan agreed a deal to install charging stations and the port.
A fast-charging station for electric vehicles will be installed in the parking lot near Exploration Tower in the port’s Cove area which will be jointly funded by Port Canaveral and car maker Nissan, which produces the Leaf electric vehicle.
Fast-charge stations can fully charge electric vehicles in less than 30 minutes, according to
Carol Noble, the port’s director of environmental plans and programs.
The port also plans to install regular slow-charge stations for electric cars in the Disney Cruise terminal, an idea suggested by Disney itself, port CEO John Walsh said.
"We’re just dipping our toes" into efforts to support electric vehicles, Noble said.
"We’re just excited to have some options."
However port commissioners blocked proposals to extend the program to install charging stations at other cruise terminal parking lots for the time being.
