Electrical fire impacts MSC Caribbean cruise
A MSC Cruises ship suffered an electrical fire after departing Port Canaveral on a week-long Caribbean sailing.
The blaze was extinguished fairly quickly but it significantly impacted ship operations, according to online posts by guests.
They remarked elevators were out of use and some dining venues were closed.
Some speculated the ship was restricted to generator power.
The cruise line has now responded and confirmed the fire.
“A small electrical fire was reported in the emergency generator room on an upper deck of the ship and was swiftly extinguished, with no injuries reported.”
MSC told guests that the original itinerary will continue without any changes.
It will visit Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico before arriving back in Florida at the weekend.
There is no report of injuries although some guests posted about a strong smell of smoke after the fire.
The crew were praised online for their actions in managing the situation.
Earlier this year a fire broke out on MSC Cruises ship Armonia as it arrived in Venice, Italy.
As it was in port, the local fire department was called to assist and it was quickly put out with minimal damage.
